The Ten Commandments
In 2004, Larry Robillard got the idea to display the 10 Commandments on some property his family owned along the 15 Freeway. There was much controversy in the National News about removing the 10 Commandments from courts, classrooms and other public locations. He asked David Hernandez if the company he worked for, SAME DAY SIGNS in Riverside, could donate some lettering if the 10 sign boards were provided. On Good Friday 2005, Larry, David and his brother Carlos, Daryl Harmon, Mike Glassey and James Flores, went out with some shovels, cement, 4x4s and put up the 10 signs, spaced along the side of the freeway, like the Burma Shave signs of old. The guys were friends from the weekly Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, CA. They also had been on Mission trips to Mexico together and Mike, James and Larry had served as Chaplains after the 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.
In 2007, when a small team went out to make repairs, some small solar lights were added. Unfortunately, almost all were stolen…the only ones that weren’t were on the 9th Commandment sign –“Thou Shall not Steal!”
